Baseball Drops Senior Day Doubleheader to Wolves

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader in their season finale on Saturday (Apr 23), as they fell to Newberry College on Senior Day. Newberry took game one by a 10-1 margin and game two by a final score of 4-0.

In game one, the Wolves took a 7-0 lead after the top of the third. The Cobras answered with a run when Ashby Vining scored on a failed pick off attempt by the Newberry pitcher. The Newberry pitching was able to shut out the Cobras the rest of the game and took the win. Five different Coker batters each recorded a hit in the loss.

In game two, Newberry took the lead in the top of the first and never looked back as they shut out the Cobras over seven innings of play. Phill Griffor accounted for all three Coker hits on the afternoon. Matt Hyatt threw three scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen, only allowing one hit.
