Cobras Fall to Bulldogs

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker baseball team fell in a midweek non-conference game to Barton College on Tuesday (Apr 12) by a score of 13-6.
The Bulldogs struck first with four runs in the top of the second, before the Cobras answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on an Eli Hopkins RBI groundout to make it 4-1. Barton posted two more in the top of the third and once again Coker responded with a run on Bryan Castillo's RBI single to trim the lead to 6-2, where it would stay until the top of the sixth inning.
Barton exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth, but Coker returned serve with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Phill Griffor's 2 RBI single drove in Hopkins and Cory Listing, then Griffor and Castillo would come around to touch home on Brady Jeffcoat's 2 RBI single to make the score 10-6 in favor of the Bulldogs. The visiting bullpen held the Cobras off the board for the remainder of the afternoon and took the decision by the 13-6 final score.
Bryan Castillo led the offensive effort with three hits and an RBI. Jeffcoat collected two hits and two RBI of his own while Griffor added his 2 RBI on a base hit and Hopkins tallied two base knocks to go along with his RBI.
The Cobras return to action this weekend (Apr 25-26) when they travel to Tennessee to take on Lincoln Memorial. First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6pm with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com.
