Baseball Falls to UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Coker baseball team came up short in their midweek non-conference game against UNC Pembroke on Wednesday (Mar. 30) by a score of 14-5.

The Braves took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but Coker responded with a solo home run off the bat of Reilly Hall for his fifth of the season to make it 2-1. The Braves held the Cobra bats in check and put big numbers up on the scoreboard in their favor, as the score sat at 14-1 heading into the eighth inning.

The Cobras struck for two runs in the top of the eighth behind an Andrew Scudder RBI groundout and pushed across another on a wild pitch. Coker scored two more in the top of the ninth as Nick Leonard launched his second home run of the season, this one of the two-run variety, to make the score 14-5. Hall, Leonard, Ashby Vining, and Cam Farrell all recorded hits, while Cory Listing had two base knocks.

Coker will be back in action this weekend (April 1-2) when they host Queens (N.C.) University. First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
