Hall Walks-Off Belmont Abbey in Extras

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University baseball team picked up a midweek victory in walk-off fashion on Tuesday (Mar. 8), as they defeated Belmont Abbey 4-3 in 11 innings.

The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead and took a 3-0 advantage after two innings of play. The Cobras struck back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bryan Castillo and Jackson Williams recorded back-to-back two out singles to put runners on for Cory Listing, who drove in Castillo for the first Coker run of the game. Reilly Hall drew a bases loaded walk two batters later to earn an RBI and draw the Cobras within one at 3-2.

The score held at 3-2 until the bottom of the ninth inning behind strong performances on the mound from both teams' bullpens. In the bottom of the ninth, Reilly Hall would come to the plate representing the Cobras' final out of the game as they still trailed 3-2. Hall spun on an inside pitch and drove it over the right field wall to tie things up at 3-3 and send the game into extras.

Both teams went scoreless in the tenth, and the Cobras held Belmont Abbey to no runs in the top half of the eleventh. Jackson Williams reached on a passed ball third strike and Jimmy Rosengrant drew a walk to put runners on base with two out. Once again Reilly Hall stepped to the plate with an opportunity to win the game for the Cobras. Hall came through in the clutch once more, as he ripped a single through the ride side to score pinch runner Tristen Melvin and walk-off the Crusaders.

Hall led the offensive effort for the Cobras as he recorded three hits and drove in three of the four Coker runs on the day, including the game-tying and game-winning tallies. Cory Listing drove in the other run for the Cobras. Coker had a great staff outing on the mound as Garrett Dunn, Dallas Higuet, Britton Adams, Ethan Graham, Collin Breland, Cooper Thomas, Jonathan Ford, and Zack Hinson all threw a scoreless inning. Matt Hyatt went 1 ⅓ innings scoreless and Triston Fowler recorded the final two outs of the eleventh inning to pick up his second victory of the year.

The Cobras return to action this weekend (Mar. 11-13), as they make the short trip to Florence, S.C. to take on nearby rivals Francis Marion. First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
