WINGATE, N.C. - The Coker University baseball team fell in a slugfest to #2 Wingate on Thursday night (Feb. 3) by a score of 16-10.
The host Bulldogs picked up where they left off last season, as the defending national champions jumped out to a 10-0 lead after three innings. The Cobras showed determination to battle back, as they scored multiple runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to draw back within striking distance of the Bulldogs. Inevitably, the early lead was too much to overcome as Wingate took the victory by a final of 16-10.
Coker put up a strong performance on the offensive end, as they tallied 14 hits on the night off of the nation's second-ranked team. The Cobras were led by sophomore Kody Hanna, who recorded three hits. Seniors Reilly Hall and Jackson Williams both contributed two hits each, while Hall drove in three runs and Williams added two RBI of his own. Grad student Tripp Kimmel had his first two hits in a Cobra uniform and freshman Brady Jeffcoat tallied two base knocks. Senior Phill Griffor added a hit and drove in his first two runs of the season.
