Belmont, N.C. – The Coker University baseball team came up short 5-3 to the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders on Tuesday (Feb. 18).
After the Crusaders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Cobras rallied to take the lead 2-1 in the top of the sixth, courtesy of RBI's from Vito Castronovo and Zach Capaldi. Belmont Abbey reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning, but once again the Cobras were able to answer. Phill Griffor's sacrifice fly gave the Cobras the advantage, bringing home Bryan Castillo. Despite Coker's resiliency, the Crusaders went on to win by a score of 5-3. Cooper Sain had a quality start for the Cobras, striking out five over the course of six innings.
The Cobras will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 21) when they travel to face the Anderson University Trojans. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m., with live coverage available at www.cokercobras.com.
