Coker Splits Doubleheader Versus Alderson Broaddus

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker University baseball team split Saturday's (Feb. 8) doubleheader against the Alderson Broaddus University Battlers at Tom. J. New Field. The Cobras won game one by a score of 6-4, while dropping the second game 6-4 in six innings.

Game one

The Cobras were able to strike first in the bottom of the first inning when Chase Bruno came through with a two-run single to right field. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Bryan Castillo was clutch with a runner in scoring position, bringing home Chase Bruno on an RBI single to extend the Cobra lead to 3-1.

After the Battlers rallied to take the lead, Vito Castronovo, Harrison Morris, and Justin Bennett all had RBI singles to center field, fueling a 6-4 Coker victory.

Game two

The Battlers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top half of the third, but in the bottom half of the inning Phill Griffor responded with an RBI single to get the Cobras on the scoreboard. The next two Cobra runs came courtesy of two different Battler wild pitches, as Harrison Morris and Griffor came across the plate. In the 5th inning, Morris brought Castronovo home on a sacrifice fly. However, Alderson Broaddus went on to win 6-4.

McDonald's Player of the Game: Griffin Hollifield, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, sealing the win in game one for Coker.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 9) when they play another doubleheader versus the Battlers. First pitch of game one is set for 11:00 a.m., with game two to follow thirty minutes after. Live coverage can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
