HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Ryland Luciano has been named Coker University’s head women’s lacrosse coach, announced today Tuesday, May 30 by the Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Facilities, Dr. Lynn Griffin.

 “I am excited to welcome Ryland to Coker; his experience and commitment to the sport of women’s lacrosse is a great fit for our program,” said Griffin.  “He is student-athlete focused and I look forward to watching him as he brings a new direction to Coker women’s lacrosse”. 

Coach Luciano comes to Coker from UVA-Wise where he was the assistant coach from 2021-2023. During his tenure with the Cavs, he assisted with leading the team to an 18-16 record.  The Cavs were 11-7 this season and advanced to the semifinals of the SAC conference tournament. Prior to his arrival at UVA-Wise, Luciano spent some time at Newberry College as the assistant coach focusing on the offense.  

Luciano spent a season at Augsburg University (Minn.) while pursuing a master's degree in leadership.

In 2018, Ryland headed to Hamburg, Germany, where he was the head coach of the Harvestehuder Club and guided the team to a 10-2 record. He also led the team to its first national championship game in 11 years with an offense and defense ranked first and second, in the country. Luciano began his coaching career at Edinboro University where served as an assistant coach for the women’s lacrosse team for two seasons.

Coach Luciano said, “ I am grateful to Dr. Griffin and the search committee for the opportunity to join the Coker community, and I look forward to building the women’s lacrosse program.”

A graduate of Edinboro University, Luciano played club lacrosse during his collegiate days. He served as team captain and led the team to appearances in the National Collegiate Lacrosse League playoffs.
