Coker SAAC Puts on 'Be The Match' Event
The Coker Student-Athlete Advisory Committee put on a 'Be The Match' event on Tuesday (Mar. 24) morning to raise awareness for blood cancer.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) put on a ‘Be The Match’ event on Tuesday (Mar. 24) to encourage the Coker community to join the national registry and raise awareness for blood cancers.
“We chose to do a ‘Be The Match’ event because we know firsthand here at Coker how important being someone’s match is,” said SAAC president Hailey Yohn. “Even though the chances of being chosen are low, just being proactive and joining the registry is a step in saving a life.”
Yohn, with the assistances of SAAC representatives and Ashley Collier of the National Marrow Donor Program spent the morning and afternoon registering individuals walking around campus. The process was quick and painless, as individuals filled out the registration form and got a quick swab of their cheek.
