THOMAS NAMED DIRECTOR OF ATHLETIC MEDIA RELATIONS

Hartsville, SC - Coker University Athletics has announced the hire of Charles “Tyler” Thomas as the school’s newest Director of Athletic Media Relations.

“We are excited to announce that Tyler will be joining us” said Dr. Lynn Griffin, Vice President for Athletics and Athletic Facilities.  “In speaking with him the last few weeks he has a vision for where he would like to see our athletics department grow and I cannot wait to see the new initiatives he brings to Coker.”  

Thomas comes to Coker from NCAA DI Longwood University, where he served as the Athletic Communications Assistant. There, he performed multiple essential duties including utilizing Stat Crew, writing press releases, running all aspects of social media, and much more.

Prior to Longwood, Thomas worked in sales and as an Associate Head Basketball Coach at the high school level. A 2022 graduate of NCAA DIII Mary Baldwin University, he was a member of the men’s basketball team and captained that team during his junior and senior seasons, becoming a founding member of the team. While at MBU, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and completed his internship with the Coastal Plains League working in the multimedia department.

Before MBU, Thomas spent two years at NCAA DIII Hampden-Sydney College as a member of the men’s basketball team. While at HSC, he was an intern with athletic communications, getting his start in the field early on in his college career.

Thomas will officially begin his duties on Monday, September 23rd, and looks forward to taking the reins of an ever-growing department.
