Coker University Announces 2024 Hall of Fame Inductees

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker University will induct Pat Brooks, Kelvin Brown, Karen Pinckney Floyd, and Lou Warner into the
Coker University Athletics Hall of Fame in February 2024, Coker Vice President of Athletics, Dr. Lynn Griffin, announced
today.

In a unanimous decision by the Coker Hall of Fame selection committee, Brooks, a former men's soccer player, becomes
just the second individual men's soccer player to be inducted into the hall of fame, while Brown, a standout men's
basketball player, becomes the sixth men's basketball player to be inducted. Floyd, a former women's basketball player,
will be the seventh women's basketball inductee and Warner, an All-American baseball player, joins the Coker Hall of
Fame as the second individual baseball player to be inducted.


The induction ceremony and dinner will take place February 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Coker's DeLoach Center.
"It is an honor to be able to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of these four individuals," Griffin said. "We are
excited to welcome each of them back to campus, along with their family and friends to share the significant impact
each of them made on Coker Athletics, and more importantly Coker in general, during their time as Cobras."


Brooks, a 1991 graduate of Coker, was a four-year member of the Cobra men's soccer team. Brooks has the honor of
being Coker's first two-time Academic All-American. In addition to his All-American honors, Brooks was a three-time
NAIA District Six Academic All-District Team selection, and he was a two-time Coker Academic Athlete of the Year
honoree in 1990 and 1991.


Accomplished on the field as well as in the classroom, Brooks started nearly every game as a defender for the Cobras
during his four years and accounted for two goals and three assists in his career. He was named to the Coker Indoor
Tournament All-Tournament team in 1990.


A native of New Bern, N.C., Brooks earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Coker and graduated Magna Cum
Laude. He also earned a degree from the Brantley School of Risk Management and Insurance at Appalachian State
University graduating with the Pruitt Award as the programs top graduate in 1996. He is a Certified Financial Planner
and owner of Independent Investment Services, LLC in Savannah, Ga. He was President of the Coker Alumni Association
from 2003-2005 and was a member of the Coker Board of Trustees from 2004-2008. He is a past member of the
Executive Committee of Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Savannah. Brooks was also named one of the "40
Under 40" business leaders of Savannah. He continues to stay active with tennis, pickleball, stand up paddling, and
completed his 4th marathon in 2019.


Brown, a 1985 graduate of Coker was a four-year member of the Cobra men's basketball. He was named the C.G.
Timberlake Athlete of the Year in 1985, was a First Team All-District Six selection and was named to Coker's All-Time
Men's Basketball Team.


One of the top point guards to ever play at Coker, Brown still holds the career record for assists with 726 assists from
1981-1985. He also holds the record for most assists in a single game, dishing out 18 helpers against Newberry College
on Feb. 1, 1982.


Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education at Coker and upon graduating joined the US Army. Following his
time serving in the Army, Brown spent 30 years in law enforcement in California. Currently, he sells real estate and is an
active member of his church and community in Salinas, Calif.


Floyd, a native of Okatie, S.C., was a four-year member of the Cobra women's basketball team where she racked up
1,372 career points, making her Coker's all-time scoring leader from 1996 to 2006. She is currently number two all-time
in scoring. In addition to her career scoring total, Floyd set the single season record for three-point field goals made with
76 during the 1993-1994 season. She was an All-Conference selection, was named to the Mars Hill College Tournament
All-Tournament Team, and was a four-time Dean's List honoree.

After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Education, Floyd began a successful teaching and coaching career spending 13 years
at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Bluffton, S.C. She was named Athletic Director at St. Gregory in 2009 and
founded the school's athletic programs. She was inducted into the Hilton Head High School Hall of Fame in 2007 and in
addition to teaching and coaching, she is the founder/co-owner of Play Hard Event Timing. In 2015, she began coaching
the John Paul II Catholic School varsity girls' basketball team in Ridgeland, S.C. where she is currently a Theology teacher
in addition to basketball coach. She was named region Coach of the Year for the 2022-23 season.


Floyd and her husband Larry, also a Coker alum, have two children Katie Leigh and Austin.


Warner, a two-time All-American catcher for the Cobra baseball team is one of handful of athletes to be inducted into
the Coker Hall of Fame as an individual and as a member of a team. Warner was a member of the 1994 Coker baseball
team that went 48-12 and advanced to the 1994 NAIA World Series and was inducted into the Coker Hall of Fame in
2015.


Individually, Warner is the eighth player in Coker history to have been named All-American more than once during his
career and he is the only Cobra baseball player to receive All-American honors twice, earning the honors in 1994 and
1995. For his career Warner batted .292 with 48 runs scored, 30 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, and 77 RBIs. He
was the C.E. Timberlake Athlete of the Year in 1995 and served on President Daniels Blue Ribbon Committee in 1995.
Upon graduating from Coker, Warner began work in the athletic construction industry and today he is the founder,
president, and owner of Warner's Athletic Construction Company, which started in 1998. Warner's Athletic focuses on
athletic field construction, renovation, and maintenance across the country. With more than 30 years of experience in
the industry, he is considered an expert authority on athletic field construction and renovation. His company has
performed numerous projects on major college sports facilities. He was also a member of the 2004 MLB All-Star Game
grounds crew at Minute Maid Park.


Warner is a member of the Coker Board of Trustees.


The 2024 Coker Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Harris E.
& Louise H. DeLoach Center. The ceremony, which includes dinner and drinks, will cost $25 per person or $200 for a table
