Coker Releases Fall 2019 Schedules

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker College released its fall 2019 schedules on Friday (June 7) for women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and field hockey.

Women's Volleyball opens the 2019 campaign under first-year head coach Travis Nead two weeks later than last year, playing at the UNC Pembroke tournament Sept. 6-7. The Cobras open the season on the sixth facing national power Grand Valley State and Fayetteville State, before playing Purdue Northwest and host UNC Pembroke on the seventh. The Cobras open their home conference slate on Sept. 13-14 hosting Newberry and Anderson (S.C.), before traveling to Wingate (Sept. 17), Catawba (Sept. 20) and Queens (N.C.) (Sept. 21). The Cobras shift from September into October with five in a row at home featuring Carson-Newman (Sept. 27), Lincoln Memorial (Sept. 28), UNC Pembroke (Oct. 1), Lenoir-Rhyne (Oct. 4) and Mars Hill (Oct. 5). Mid-October features a four-match road swing with stops at Tusculum (Oct. 11), South Atlantic Conference (SAC) newcomer UVA-Wise (Oct. 12), Carson-Newman (Oct. 18) and Lincoln Memorial (Oct. 19). The final days of October feature three home conference matches against Wingate (Oct. 22), Catawba (Oct. 25) and Queens (N.C.) (Oct. 26) before the Cobras travel to Francis Marion on the 29th to wrap up October. November begins on the road at Newberry (Nov. 1) and Anderson (S.C.) (Nov. 2), before Tusculum and UVA-Wise come to town on the eighth and ninth respectively. The Cobras will wrap up the regular season on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne (Nov. 15) and Mars Hill (Nov. 16).

Men's Soccer starts the 2019 season under first-year bench boss Michael Antoniewicz with three matches against opponents out of Conference Carolinas, facing Southern Wesleyan (Sept. 5) and Belmont Abbey (Sept. 11) on the road before hosting Mount Olive on the 14th. Coker opens SAC play on the 18th against Wingate, before stepping out of conference to face Shaw on the 21st. September concludes with matches against Lander (Sept. 25) and at Mars Hill on Sept. 29. The Cobras open October with a trip to Anderson (S.C.) on Oct. 2, before playing a three-match homestand featuring Catawba (Oct. 5), Carson-Newman (Oct. 12) and Newberry (Oct. 16). The Cobras travel to Queens (N.C.) on Oct. 19, before October ends with a trip to Tusculum (Oct. 27) and a non-conference match against Francis Marion on Oct. 30. November concludes the regular season with the Cobras hosting Lincoln Memorial on Nov. 2 and traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne in the final regular season contest on Nov. 6.

Under first-year skipper Garrett Linquist, the Coker women's soccer team starts 2019 with four consecutive non-conference games. The Cobras host Francis Marion on Sept. 5, before embarking on a three-match road trip to Barton (Sept. 7), Lander (Sept. 11) and USC-Beaufort (Sept. 14). SAC play opens on Sept. 18 when Coker faces Wingate, while Shaw comes to town on Sept. 21. September concludes with a match at Mars Hill on Sept. 29. October begins with a trip to Anderson (S.C.) on the second, before the Cobras get set for a four-match homestand featuring Catawba (Oct. 5), Mount Olive (Oct. 9), Carson-Newman (Oct. 12) and Newberry (Oct. 16). October concludes with trips to Queens (N.C.) (Oct. 19), Tusculum (Oct. 27) and Converse (Oct. 31). The final regular season home match is set for Nov. 2 against Lincoln Memorial, while the regular season concludes at Lenoir-Rhyne on Nov. 6.

The Coker cross country teams open their 2019 campaigns at the Due West Opener on Sept. 6, before competing in the Winthrop Adidas Invite on Sept. 14. They complete the month of September at the Queens City Invite on Sept. 27. The teams will take part in the Charleston Classic on Oct. 5, before wrapping up the regular season at the Royals XC Challenge on Oct. 11.

Field hockey begins the program's second season in 2019 in the co-sponsored South Atlantic Conference Carolinas league. The season begins with league games against Newberry (Sept. 7), Mount Olive (Sept. 11), Belmont Abbey (Sept. 14) and Converse (Sept. 15), before the team heads north to face Frostburg State (Sept. 21) and Slippery Rock (Sept. 22) in non-conference action. Coker hosts Queens (N.C.) on Sept. 25, before wrapping up September with a trip to Limestone on the 28th. The Cobras open October with six straight road games, facing Newberry in league play on (Oct. 2) before taking another trip north to face Pace (Oct. 6) and Molloy (Oct. 7). The Cobras come back into league play on Oct. 15 at Mount Olive, before wrapping up the road trip with stops at Converse (Oct. 20) and Queens (N.C.) (Oct. 22). The regular season concludes with a three-game homestand, with games against Belmont Abbey (Oct. 23), Bellarmine (Oct. 26) and Limestone (Oct. 29).
