Coker Student-Athletes Sit 19th in Division II with Nearly 6,000 Hours of Community Service

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker Athletics is proud to announce the completion of 5,841 community service hours from the Cobras athletic programs over the fall semester. The 5,841 community service hours completed by Coker student-athletes is the 19th best mark in all of NCAA Division II. 

In all, Coker student-athletes participated in volunteer activities that varied from civic and community service, human services, arts and culture community service, public safety community service, and education community service over the course of the fall semester. 

"Our student-athletes made a significant impact in the Hartsville community with their dedication to community service," said vice president for athletics and athletic facilities, Dr. Lynn Griffin. "The student-athletes recognize that they have the ability to make our community better every day and they have committed themselves to service.  I continue to be proud of the impact they have and will continue to make." 

Community service opportunities Coker student-athletes participated in included packing food bags for Carolina Kids, reading at North Hartsville Elementary and Thornwell School for the Arts, working local golf tournaments, delivering Christmas cards to nursing homes, walking in the Hartsville Christmas Parade, participating in fall festivals at schools, assisting in Treats on the Streets, walking in the Domestic Violence March, helping out in Bible School at St. Mary's, assisting in the Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, volunteering at the Taste of Coker, participating in American Family Day, running volleyball and cheer clinics, unloading pumpkins at local churches, lending a hand with the Habitat for Humanity project, and helping out during freshman move-in day.
