HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University senior wrestler Corey Christie has been named the SPC Credit Union December Student-Athlete of the Month, announced by the athletics department today (Thursday, Dec. 30).
Chrisite posted four wins in the month of December, including two by fall. His first win of the month helped Coker to a 27-15 victory at Mount Olive on Dec. 1, as he pinned Matthew Wuntke in 55 seconds at 165 pounds. Christie’s next action came at the 42nd annual Midwest Classic, where he posted three wins and advanced to the second day of the prestigious tournament. Christie's day began with a win by fall over David Varner of King (Tenn.) in 1:22, before defeating Alexander Isbrandt of Findlay by decision 9-4. Christie advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-2 win by decision over Cody Hicks of Fort Hays State, before losing by fall in the quarterfinal.
This is Christie’s first career Student-Athlete of the Month selection.
The Lower Burrell, Pa. native is the son of James and Lori Christie, and is a biology major.
