Cobras Place Seventh and Eighth at SAC Championship; Smullen Named to All-SAC Team

SALISBURY, N.C. – Led by freshmen Noah Cook and Shauntel Smullen, the Coker cross country teams competed in the 2014 South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Nov. 8). The men's team placed seventh and the women's team came in eighth.

Cook paced the Cobra men's team with a top 25 finish and a time of 27:47 in the 8k event. Following close behind was junior Nick Mascardo in 26th place with a time of 27:48. Senior Dylan Bates placed 28th overall after crossing the finish line at 27:52 and sophomore James Gregory came in at 28:51. Freshman Evan Alcorn finished at 31:17 and sophomore Tre' Williams and freshman Christopher Andre rounded out the Cobra runners with times of 34:27 and 35:24, respectively.

In the women's race, Smullen posted a top 15 finish with a time of 19:43 in the 5k meet and earned a spot on the All-SAC honorable mention team. Sophomore Mercy Muhuhu came in at 20:19, followed by freshman Lisa Foster at 21:07. Junior Vanessa Pina crossed the finish line at 22:14, while senior Kirsten Sanders and junior Naomi Watson posted times of 22:24 and 23:04, respectively.

The Cobras will now prepare for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Montevallo, Alabama.
