Cobras Fall in Four at Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Coker University volleyball team fell to Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday (Nov. 2) by a score of 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference action. 

The Trojans won the first set by a score of 25-12 for a 1-0 lead in the match. The two teams played to a 6-6 tie, before Anderson would go on a 10-3 run to extend its lead to 16-9. Coker would get back within six at 17-11, before the Trojans would wrap up the set from there. 

The Cobras would rebound to win the second set 25-20 to tie the match 1-1. The teams split the first three points, before Coker won seven straight points for a 9-2 lead. Anderson would counter with a run to cut the lead to 11-8, before Coker would extend its lead to 14-8 winning the next three points. Anderson would get back within five at 15-10, before Coker would extend its lead to as many as eight at 22-14 and then 23-15. Anderson would get back within four at 24-20, before Coker would take the set with an Emily Everton kill from Rami Mullen

The Trojans would win the third set 25-19 for a 2-1 lead in the match. The two teams played to early ties, before Anderson would jump ahead 12-9. The Trojans would continue their run, leading 15-10 and 20-13 later in the set. Facing set point, Coker would win six consecutive points to hold the Trojans off before Anderson would finally capture the set. 

Anderson would seal the victory with a 25-8 win in the fourth set. The Trojans jumped out to leads of 8-2 and 12-4, before extending their lead further to win the final set. 

Chelsey Blume and Taylor du Bray each led the Cobras with eight kills on the day, while Alexis Kopicki posted six kills. Everton and Sierra Harvey each had three kills on the day, while Mullen also had two. Ashley Carson led the Cobras with 16 assists on the afternoon, while Mullen also contributed 10. Everton and Camryn Tate each also chipped in two assists on the afternoon. Mullen, Everton and Carson each registered service aces in the match. Tate's 14 digs led the Cobras in the match, while Kopicki and Everton each had five digs on the day. Gabrielle Milo recorded four digs in the contest, while Mullen and Carson each added three. Du Bray had two digs in the match, while Blume also added one. 

Coker is back in action next Friday (Oct. 8) to face Tusculum at the DeLoach center at 7:00 p.m.
