CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coker University volleyball team dropped its South Atlantic Conference match at Queens (N.C.) on Saturday (Sept. 21) by a score of 3-1. 

Queens (N.C.) would take the opening set 25-16 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The two teams played to an early 3-3 tie, before a 7-3 run from Coker left the Cobras up 10-6. The Royals would respond with a 6-0 run to take a 12-10 lead and force a Coker timeout. As the set went on, Coker would get back within two at 16-14. Queens extended its lead to 19-14, before Coker would get two points back to get within 19-16. The Royals finished off the opening set with six points in a row. 

Queens would go up 2-0 in the match with a 25-21 win in the second set. The Cobras started off hot in the second set, holding leads of 5-1, 9-3 and 11-5 in the set. The two teams remained separated by five, before Queens would force a Coker timeout by getting back within two at 16-14. Queens would continue its run and go ahead 20-17, before winning five of the last nine points in the set for the victory. 

Coker would fight off the sweep by winning the third set by an identical score of 25-21. The Cobras jumped out to a 5-2 lead, and forced a Queens timeout early in the set as the lead swelled to 10-3. Coker was able to keep the Royals at a distance in the set eventually going up 16-10, before the home team would rattle off five consecutive points to get back within one. Coker would finish off the set with a 9-6 run to stay alive in the match. 

Queens would seal the victory with a 25-15 win in the fourth set. The Royals jumped out to an 8-1 lead, before later extending their lead to 16-6 in the final set. The Cobras would get back within single digits at 17-10, before Queens would finish off the match to take the home victory. 

 Coker hit .127 in the match and recorded 38 total kills. Emily Everton led the Cobras with 14 kills, while Taylor du Bray also finished with 10. Olivia Cerick (seven), Sierra Harvey (three) and Carson Fuller (two) also contributed to the offense with kills on the night. Ashley Carson led the team with 18 assists, while Rami Mullen also added 10. Camryn Tate chipped in six assists from the libero position, while Cerick and Fuller each also had one assist in the match. Cerick led the team with 14 digs on the day, while Carson completed a double-double with 12. Mullen (nine), Tate (nine), Everton (five), Chelsey Blume (three), Harvey (three), du Bray (one) and Fuller (one) also recorded digs in the contest. Harvey recorded the lone solo block for the Cobras, while Blume posted a team-high four block assists. Everton, Harvey and Fuller each added two block assists in the match, while du Bray registered one.

Coker is back in action on Friday (Sept. 27) when the Cobras welcome Narson-Newman to the DeLoach Center. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
