Cobras Drop SAC Opener to Queens (N.C.) 3-2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Coker College women's volleyball team fell to Queen's (N.C.) 3-2 (15-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 11-15) in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Tuesday (Sept. 4).

The Cobras were led by Taylor du Bray, and a trio of freshmen who came up just short in their comeback bid against the Royals.

Du Bray, the reigning AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week, notched 17 kills and 22 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Freshman Lana Strejcek was Coker's most efficient hitter, recording 16 kills, eight blocks, and a .325 hitting percentage on the evening. Meanwhile, fellow freshman Olivia Cerick shined with a career-high 19 kills and 15 digs.

Rami Mullen stole the show though, as she tied the Coker single-game assists record with 55 assists on the evening. The Cobras also tied the team record of 61 assists set back in October 2001.

Coker will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 7) when they travel to Anderson, South Carolina for a double header against Anderson (S.C.) and Erskine. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
