Cobras Take Down UNC Pembroke, Drop Match to Wingate in Saturday's Tri-Match

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College women's volleyball team had a busy day Saturday (Oct. 14) as they took on both the University of North Carolina at Pembroke Braves and the Wingate University Bulldogs, recently ranked 24th in the country, as the host team of a tri-match.

The Cobras won their match against UNCP 3-1, but dropped the second match of the day to Wingate, 3-0.

Against the Braves, the Cobras were led offensively by Olivia Veith's career-high 13 kills and Annie Mansfield's 12 kills. Mansfield hit an impressive .407 against the UNCP block. Christen Bragg had 48 assists and 14 digs. Kara Overholt claimed the team-high in digs with 20, and achieved season-high assists with six. Three Cobras recorded a service ace with Taylor du Bray collecting two. Alexis Berles had three solo blocks and assisted on four as she led the defensive stand. Mansfield added two solo and two block assists to her credit.

As a team, the Navy and Gold hit .462 in the second set. They totaled 55 kills, 55 assists, 78 digs, and 12 total blocks against UNCP.

In the Wingate match, Madison Bingle led the attack with four kills and nine digs, while du Bray added three kills with five digs. Bragg handed out nine assists and had seven digs.

The Cobras will take a road trip to Tennessee for their next two matches. They will visit the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters on Friday (Oct. 20) at 7:00 p.m. and the Carson-Newman University Eagles Saturday (Oct. 21) at 12:00 p.m.
