HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker women's volleyball team has taken time away from their busy college lives and offseason to give back to both the young and old in the Hartsville community.

A television ad seen by head coach Julia Rafalowski prompted the team to start volunteering with "Meals on Wheels America", a program that helps deliver meals to elderly people in communities all across America. The girls have been delivering meals to elderly women in the Hartsville community four days a week since the beginning of the semester.

"It has been a very rewarding experience for the entire team to participate in Meals On Wheels America.  Each day we get to interact with ladies in our community who otherwise might go days without visitors or anyone to check on them," said Rafalowski.

The team also took a trip to Carolina Elementary to read to some younger students. The trip was organized by women's volleyball junior Missy Reid, who is an elementary education major and currently student teaching at Carolina Elementary.

"It was great to have Missy organize this opportunity for the team.  It was evident by the smiles and hugs we received that the students really enjoyed us being there," said Rafalowski.
