Cobras Take Thrilling Victory Over Pioneers on Senior Night

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's volleyball team took a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Tusculum College pioneers Friday (Nov. 11) evening on Senior Night.

The Cobras jumped out to an early lead by capturing the first two sets over the Pioneers. However, Tusculum battled back by taking the third and fourth sets to notch the match score at two sets apiece. 

With the match on the line, Coker buckled down and prevailed 15-11 over Tusculum in the fifth set for the match victory.

The first and second sets had the Cobras grind out tough 25-23 victories over the Pioneers. With the score tied up 23-23 in the first set, Tusculum committed two critical errors for Coker's final two points of the frame.

During the end of the second set, the Cobras held a slim 24-23 lead over the Pioneers. Next, Alexis Berles crushed Tusculum's chance of a comeback with a well-placed kill for the set deciding point.

After the Pioneers were victorious in the third and fourth sets, the Navy and Gold toughed out a 15-11 fifth set for the 3-2 match victory. Coker led 13-11 when back back-to-back points from Regen Kennen and Taylor du Bray sealed the victory. Kennen scored off of a powerful kill and du Bray tallied a service ace for the match deciding point.

Madison Bingle led the Cobras offensively with 15 kills and Taylor du Bray dished out a team-high 24 assists. On the defensive end of the ball, Kara Overholt collected 22 digs and Bethany Prochnow added six total blocks.

Coker will have little time off as they will be back in action tomorrow (Nov. 12) afternoon when the take on Mars Hill at 2 p.m. in their regular season finale.
