Cobras Drop Marathon Match to Lions, Bragg records Triple-Double

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's volleyball team fell 3-2 in a tightly contested South Atlantic Conference matchup against Mars Hill University on Friday (Sept. 11).

The Cobras would lose set one by a score of 25-12. The second set would be a much tighter contest with the Cobras erasing an early 8-1 deficit. The teams would trade points throughout the set, with the Lions eventually coming out with the 27-25 win.

Sets three and four would be a different story however. Both teams once again battled it out with neither team taking the upper hand. The Navy and Yellow would buckle down late in set three to take it 32-30. The Cobras would stay on the comeback trail, taking set four by a score of 25-21, to force a decisive fifth set.

The fifth set would see the Lions come out on fire, surging to an early 9-3 advantage and the eventual 15-9 final set win.

Leading the way for the Cobras was sophomore Christen Bragg. She recorded a triple-double with 34 assists, 14 digs and 13 kills on the night. Madison Bingle and Kara Overholt each had a double-double, Bingle recording 18 digs and 11 kills and Overholt dishing out 14 assists and registering 11 digs. Not to be outdone, Rachel Waters had 35 digs and Megan Hardy recorded 13 kills.

Coker will have a quick turnaround as they will be back on the court tomorrow (Sept. 12) afternoon at 2 p.m. to take on Tusculum in another SAC matchup. Doors of the DeLoach Center will open at 1 p.m.
