Cobras Blow Away Tornados in 3-0 Sweep

BREVARD, N.C. – The Coker women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 South Atlantic Conference win over the Tornados of Brevard College on Saturday (Oct. 18).

The Navy and Yellow took command of the match early, as they closed out the first set with a 10-6 run to win 25-15. Set two would be more competitive, but timely kills by Madison Bingle and Brooke Closset would be the difference in Coker's 25-22 set victory. Coker would take an early 4-0 lead in set three, however, the Tornados would not go away easy. Brevard battled back to a 24-21 deficit, but senior Celia Duggan would end any comeback attempt, giving Coker the 25-21 set victory on her ninth kill of the day.

Megan Hardy and Closset led the Cobras with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while Duggan added nine kills. Samantha Celek had a match-high 19 digs and Bingle added 14 digs of her own to help lead the defense. Christen Bragg registered her seventh 30-plus assist game of the season with a match-high 35 helpers.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 21) when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Queens University of Charlotte Royals in South Atlantic Conference action. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
