Coker Women's Volleyball Opens DeLoach Center with a Bang

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Cobra women's volleyball team opened Coker's brand new Harris E. and Louise H. DeLoach Center by defeating Barton College Bulldogs 3-1 on Wednesday (Sept. 10) evening. The non-conference victory moves the Cobras to 3-2 on the year.

In front of an energetic crowd, the Cobras crushed the Bulldogs 25-12 in the opening set of the match. The Navy and Yellow then took a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the second set. The Bulldogs bounced back with a 25-21 victory in the third set, but the Cobras took home the first-ever victory inside the DeLoach Center with 25-20 win in the fourth set.

Sophomore Toni Hammer led the attack with 10 kills and four blocks, while the freshman trio of Madison Bingle, Libby Merrifield and Megan Hardy added a combined 25 kills for the Cobras. Hardy also had a team high 14 digs. Freshman Christen Bragg dished out 36 assists and had eight digs as well for Coker.

The Cobras will return the court on Tuesday (Sept. 16) for their first South Atlantic Conference match of the season at home against Queens University of Charlotte at 7 p.m. It will also be Paws for Pause Night, with proceeds from the match being donated to the Darlington County Humane Society.
