Calene Lazare Earns USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

New Orleans, Louisiana. – On Monday (Mar. 2) the NCAA Division II All-Region team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) was announced. Calene Lazare of Coker University women's track and field received All-Region honors for the 60m and 200m.

Lazare, a sophomore from Newton, MA, is a transfer from Merrimack College. She has broken two Coker track records this season. At the JDL College Kick-Off Classic, Calene set a new record in the 60m with a time of 7.61, helping earn her SAC AstroTurf Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors on Dec. 10. At the BU Valentine Meet on Feb. 15, Lazare ran a time of 25.08 in the 200m, setting another school record. Most recently at the SAC Indoor Championships on Mar. 1, Lazare finished in second place in the 200m finals with a mark of 7.67.

"Calene has worked extremely hard and I am glad to see it paying off," said coach Pete Early. "She is a wonderful representation of this program and this is a great honor for her and us."

The Cobras will begin the outdoor season on Friday (Mar. 20) when they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. Live results can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
