Calene Lazare Named SAC AstroTurf Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the opening weekend of the 2019-20 campaign. Calene Lazare of Coker University was named the first Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Dec. 10).

A sophomore sprinter from Newton, Massachusetts, Lazere shattered a Cobra school record in the 60m with a time of 7.61, beating the prior school record of 7.70. Lazere's mark of 7.61 makes her a provisional qualifier for nationals. This is Lazere's first season with the Cobras, transferring from Merrimack College. Previously, her best marks were 7.66 in the 60m, and 24.83 in the 200m, both of which were provisional national qualifiers. Those times earned her a spot on the USTFCCCA All Region Team.

"Calene has been working really hard all fall and we are very pleased with how her opening race played out," said coach Pete Early. "Hopefully this is the first of many awards coming her way this year."

The Cobras will be back in action on Jan. 17th when they travel to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Opener. Live results can be found at www.cokercobras.com
