Tiffany Taylor and Calene Lazare set Coker records at JDL College Kick-Off Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Coker University women's track and field team opened up their 2019-20 season on Saturday (Dec. 7) at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C.

On the track, sophomore Calene Lazare led the way for the Cobras, shattering a school record in the 60m with a time of 7.61, beating the previous mark of 7.70. Her time of 7.61 provisionaly qualifies for nationals. In the 400m, Trinity White posted a time of 1:01.97, finishing in the top half. Destiny Ingram finished with a time of 2:33.78 in the 800 meters, while Nyasia Weatherly ran a time of 26.72 in the 200m.

Tiffany Taylor set a school field record in the shot put with a distance of 11.06m, breaking her previous record of 10.59m, which she set last season. Caterra Barkins and Sierra St. John finished with distances of 9.95m and 9.89m, respectively.

"We had a lot of great performances today capped off by two school records and a provisional qualifier for nationals," said coach Pete Early. "The women showed up and set the tone from the beginning and we are very proud of how today went."

The Cobras will be back in action on Jan. 17^th when they travel to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Opener. Live results can be found at www.cokercobras.com
