Coker Women's Track and Field Picked Seventh in SAC Preseason Poll

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coker University's women's track and field team was picked seventh in the 2019-20 South Atlantic Conference women's track and field Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the league today (Tuesday, Nov. 26). 

Destiny Ingram, Calene Lazare, and Asante Rice were named Athletes to Watch by coach Pete Early and the SAC.

Ingram, a freshman from Graniteville, S.C., ran track for North Augusta High School. Destiny received the awards of Most Valuable Women's Track Athlete and Most Outstanding Middle Distance Athlete. She holds the North Augusta High School 800m record and was a AAAA All-Region Cross Country Athlete.

Lazare, a transfer from Merrimack College, is a newcomer to the Cobras squad. Calene ran a personal best 7.66 in the 60m, and a 24.83 in the 200m in her time at Merrimack, both of which were provisional national qualifiers. She was selected to the USTFCCCA All-Region team.

Rice, a senior from Fountain Inn, S.C., competed in the 60H, 100H, 200, and long jump during the 2018-19 campaign, recording three top-five finishes. At the UNCW Seahawk Invitational (Mar. 9 – Mar. 10), she finished fourth place in the 100H (15.22).

"We are extremely excited to continue to build off the great year we had last season," said coach Early. We saw a lot of individual success last year, and we brought in a great group of talent to help us take the next step forward as a complete team."

The Cobras will kick off their 2019-20 campaign on Dec. 7 in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic. Live coverage can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
