Ruff and Barkins Set Coker Records at Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Coker College women's track and field team opened their outdoor season at the Shamrock Invitational on Friday (Mar. 15) and Saturday (Mar. 16).

Kaylah Ruff and Caterra Barkins headlined a record-breaking effort by the women's side in their season opener.

Ruff posted the two fastest times in school history in the 100-meter hurdles, continuing her success from the indoor season. Her qualifying time of 14.35 seconds now stands as the best mark in Coker history, and her finals time of 14.45 seconds -- good for fourth place at the meet -- ranks second.

Barkins destroyed her own school record in the discus with a distance of 36.01 meters, good for 11th place out of over 60 competitors.

Coker will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 23) when they travel to Columbia to compete in the Columbia Invitational.
