Darroneshia Lott Narrowly Misses 1500-Meter Final at NCAA Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Senior runner Darroneshia Lott ran her final 1500-meter race as a Coker Cobra on Thursday (May 24) at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Charlotte, N.C.

Darroneshia Lott made another mark on her career at Coker College as she pushed across the finish line in the women's 1500-meter preliminary event in 4:30.20. Lott placed ninth out of the 12 runners in her heat, narrowly missing qualifying for the national championship race by 0:00.09 seconds.

Head track and field coach Tom Scott stated, "Today didn't go the way we wanted it to. This is what makes great athletes great, it's about how you bounce back and respond."

Lott will take her talents to the 800-meter preliminary race on Friday, May 25, with the race set to begin at 6:20 p.m.

"We're going to turn the page and forget what happened today," Scott said. "We're going to reset the mind and get ready as we have another opportunity to do big things tomorrow in the 800-meter. Darroneshia has a lot of experience in the 800. She'll bounce back and we'll see what she's made of- this is what it's all about."
