Leake Wins Individual Title, Barkins Sets Two Coker Records at UNCW Seahawk Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C.- The Coker College women's track and field team showcased their talent in day two of the UNCW Seahawk Invitational on Saturday, March 10. Noelia Leake came away with an Individual Championship, while Caterra Barkins secured two new Coker records in Wilmington, N.C. 

Noelia Leake brought home the gold in the women's 100-meter dash in the time of 12 seconds flat, which ties her own previous and school record set last year at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships.

Caterra Barkins ultimately shattered the previous program record in the discus, throwing for a distance of 106' 4" to become the new record holder. Barkins placed sixth overall in this event. She then competed in the shot put, also securing a new school record with a distance of 34' 10.5", placing sixth overall. Her teammate, Tamara McMichael also tossed and finished eighth with a throw of 33' 1".

Asante Rice took on the women's 100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth overall in the time of 15.22 seconds. This time places her fifth all-time at Coker.

Four Cobras placed inside the top-10 in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Charity Snelling finished fourth overall in 1:07.86. Kaylah Ruff didn't follow far behind in sixth with a time of 1:09.23. Angel Gale pushed across in ninth in 1:09.93 and Jalecia Williamson in 10th in 1:13.44.

Snelling also competed in the triple jump, jumping a distance of 35' 7.25", putting her second all-time at Coker and fourth overall. Talicia Murphy was one position behind overall, jumping 33' 10.25".

Coker will next head to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Charleston Southern University Spring Break Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17. Results from the events can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
