Cobras Post Strong Opening Day At SAC Championships

HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker College women's track and field team completed day one of the South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships on Friday (Apr. 14). 

The Cobras notched two runner-up finishes and one third-place showing to headline the opening day.

Charity Snelling finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.62 meters.

Da'Sha Jobes and Talicia Murphy excelled in the long jump, finishing second and third in the event. Jobes recorded a leap of 5.44 meter, while Murphy finished with a leap of 5.39 meters. In the javelin, Tamara McMichael finished sixth with a toss of 31.83 meters. 

In preliminary events, Darroneshia Lott won the top seed in the 1500 and 800-meter. In the 100-meter hurdle prelims, Asante Rice and Kaylah Ruff finished first and second. In the 100-meter dash prelims, Noelia Leake finished second, running a record-setting time of 12 seconds in the event. Briana Nixon finished sixth in the 400-meter prelims. In the 400-meter hurdle prelims, Coker had four runners finish in the top-eight, led by Charity Snelling, who earned the top seed. Leake also placed second in the 200-meter prelim.

The final day of the SAC Championships will conclude tomorrow (Apr. 15).
