Coker Women's Track & Field Sets Records at Palmetto Classic

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Coker Cobras women's track & field team had a record setting day at the Palmetto Classic on Friday (Mar. 6).

Noelia Leake led the way with Coker's first-ever first place finish in the 100-meter dash. She completed the race in 12.95 seconds. Three other Cobras also placed in the top 15 in the event; Talicia Murphy in 11th, Deanna Alston-Butler in 12th and Raquel McArthur in 14th place.

Leake also placed 9th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.16 seconds. Autumn Walters followed in 10th place with a time of 28.17 seconds and Alston-Butler placed 14th.

Da'Sha Jobes earned a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.78.  Jobes also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.16 meters.

In the 800-meter run, Shauntel Smullen placed fourth with a time of 2:32.52, while Lisa Foster came in eighth with a time of 2:35.49 and Vanessa Pina placed 11th with time of 2:45.46. Smullen also placed eighth in the one mile run, coming in at 5:42.48.

Naomi Watson came in ninth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 21:37, while Karley Weiner placed third in the 400-meter hurdles, coming in at 1:24.57.

Murphy also picked up a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.40 meters.

In the throwing events, Tamara McMichael placed 11th in the shot put, eighth in the hammer throw and fifth in the javelin throw. Alexis Berles also placed 16th in the shot put and 11th in the discus throw. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Friday (Mar. 13) at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
