Coker Women's Track & Field Has Strong Showing at UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Coker women's track & field team took part in the UCS Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 21) at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Da'Sha Jobes led the way with a sixth place finish in the women's long jump.  Her final distance was 5.04 meters. Talicia Murphy also placed in the top 30 in the long jump with a distance of 4.33 meters.  Murphy placed 16th in the triple jump with a distance of 9.82 meters.

Tamara McMichael, Alexis Berles and Deanna Alston-Butler each earned top 30 finishes in the shot put. McMicheal threw 8.29 meters, Berles had a distance of 8.13 meters and Alston-Butler threw 8.04 meters. Berles and McMichael also competed in the weight throw. Berles finished 21st with a distance of 6.46 meters, while McMichael came in 22nd with a distance of 3.69 meters.

In the running events, Noelia Leake and Jobes placed in the top 30 in the 200-meter dash. Leake came in 21st with a time of 27.16 and Jobes placed 30th with a time of 27.73.

Shauntel Smullen led a trio of Cobras in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.84, followed by Loisa Foster with a time of 2:39.75 and Mercy Muhuhu at 2:45.66.  Smullen, Foster, Muhuhu and Karley Weiner made up the Coker's distance medley team that placed ninth with a time of 13:20.28.

The Cobras will return to the track on March 6 at the Palmetto Classic in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
