Women’s Tennis Rides Doubles Play to Victory Over Catawba

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College women's tennis team rode their strong doubles play to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Catawba College Indians Wednesday (Apr. 11) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.

Coker started the match by sweeping doubles play. The duo of Jennifer Mezei and Suzanna Mickey battled for an 8-7 victory at the No. 1 spot, while Jennifer Ruetten and Julia Sorrells earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Jenna Gainey and Charlotte Clarke capped off the Cobras dominant doubles play with a decisive 8-3 decision at the No. 3 position. Mezei and Mickey improved their doubles record to 9-8 with their victory this afternoon.

The Navy and Gold were challenged in singles action, as Clarke and Gainey were the lone Cobras to earn victories. Clarke cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles and Gainey picked up a 6-3, 7-6 win at the No. 6 slot.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 14) when they host the Anderson University Trojans for senior day. Opening serve is set for 2 p.m.
