Women’s Tennis Drops Tight 5-4 Contest to Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. - The Coker College women's tennis team dropped a tight 5-4 contest to the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears Sunday (Apr. 8) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play.

Coker began the match strong, taking two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Jennifer Mezei and Suzanna Mickey battled for an 8-6 decision at No. 1 doubles, while the tandem of Jennifer Ruetten and Julia Sorrells recorded an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 spot. Mezei and Mickey improved to 8-8 on the year with the victory.

In singles play, Mezei fought for a 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 victory at the No. 1 slot, while Ruetten earned a 7-6, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles. Mezei upgraded her singles record to 8-8 with the victory.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 11) when they host Catawba at 2 p.m. in conference action.
