Cobras Tame Golden Bulls, Improve to 4-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coker College women's tennis team tamed the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls by picking up a 6-3 victory Thursday (Feb. 22) afternoon to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Cobras began the match by taking two of three doubles matches. No. 2 doubles tandem Suzanna Mickey and Jennifer Mezei cruised to an 8-1 victory to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season. The Navy and Gold wrapped doubles play up when Charlotte Clarke and Kayla Baldwin battled for a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, the Cobras recorded four victories out of the six matches. Mickey conquered her Johnson C. Smith opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Mezei cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. Next, Clarke earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles and Kelli Hurt won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. Both Mickey and Mezei improved to 4-1 in singles action with their victories this afternoon.

The Cobras will be back in action when they travel to Francis Marion to take on the Patriots on Sunday (Feb. 25) at 12 p.m.
