Cobras Nab 5-4 Victory in Comeback Fashion

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's tennis team picked up a 5-4 non-conference win against the Braves of UNC Pembroke on Tuesday (Feb. 3) afternoon. The win moves the Cobras to 1-1 on the season.

The Cobras started out of the blocks slow, falling behind 2-1, as Jennifer Mezei and Sarah Elliott nabbed the team's lone win in the doubles portion of play.

Ragan Palmer would knot the match up at 2-all following her 6-2, 6-3 straight-set victory at No. 4 singles. The Braves would notch a win at No. 5 singles, but Coker would counter with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 victory by Suzanna Mickey at No. 6 singles to pull even at 3-all. UNC Pembroke would take a commanding 4-3 lead heading into the final two matches after picking up a win at No. 3 singles.

Bailey Palmer would bring the score level with her 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles, while Jennifer Mezei completed the comeback with her decisive 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 straight-set win at No. 1 singles.

The Navy and Yellow will continue its homestand with another non-conference matchup on Saturday (Feb. 3) against the Benedict College Tigers. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Coker Tennis Courts.
