Hartsville, SC - When you start ranked 11th of 13 teams in the SAC preseason polls, it adds a little extra chip on your shoulder. Especially when the team ranked 7th in that same poll comes to play a nightcap game in Hartsville.
The Cobras scored early on, with Maia Clark beating her defender and slotting one home in the first fifteen minutes to go up 1-0. After that, it was deadlocked for the remainder of the half. The Cobras saw a few other chances to score but couldn't quite get on the end of one as they went into the break with a one-goal lead.
It was a tightly contested second half, with the Saints stepping up their play and creating a few chances of their own. However, due to the Cobras' defensive prowess, no goals were scored yet again. The Cobras were given a chance to double their lead with two minutes left after the Limestone keeper committed a foul in the box, setting up the PK chance. Mallie Bates slotted this one home with ease as it secured the 2-0 victory for the Cobras.
Other than the goal-scoring, the Cobras played well end-to-end. Kira Boelke assisted the goal by Clark and keeper Rhyan Parkin still has not allowed a goal this season, recording 7 saves in this one.
The Cobras have a week to recover before heading on the road to face off against the Eagles from Carson-Newman next Saturday. Kick-off for that game is scheduled for 5:00 PM ET.
