Cobras Fall Short on the Road at Queens

Charlotte, N.C.- The Coker women's soccer team fell in South Atlantic Conference action at Queens (N.C.) on Saturday (Oct. 19) by a score of 6-0. 

In the first half Anna Bozzone attempted the first header for the Cobras that just missed wide of the back of the net at the 13-minute mark. Queens would score the first goal of the match on a breakaway goal by Nia Gaither taking the 1-0 lead with 21 minutes left to play in the half.  The Queens' Royals would then go on to score two more goals in the first half.

The Cobras continued to battle their way back for the second 45 minutes of play when Queens' Erica Turner saved Chloe Grein's attempt at a shot on goal. Ava Kieser would then attempt another shot on goal that was knocked away by Queens in the 75th minute of play. Queens would then create three more scoring opportunities in the remaining minutes of play.

"Unfortunately we got punished for a bit of a slow start," said head coach Garrett Linquist. "I was really happy with the response after halftime and felt we were unlucky with the score line after halftime. Luckily we'll have a week to recover and look to fix some things as we prepare for Tusculum next weekend.

Coker will be back in action when the travel to Greeneville, Tennessee to take on conference opponent Tusculum on Sunday (Oct. 27). Kickoff time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
