Coker Picks Up First Win of the Season over Shaw on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season over Shaw University on Saturday (Sept. 21).

The Bears were able to score the first goal early on in the match, but the Cobras came firing back with their first goal of the season by Ashley Hogg at the 11-minute mark. It was only one minute later when Neeley Reagin fired in another goal for the Cobras to give them their first lead of the game. Nearing the last 10 minutes of the half, Hogg scored her second goal of the game to close out the first half and give the Cobras the 3-1 lead at the half.

The Cobras played a great defensive second half holding the bears scoreless, and making the final score 3-1.

"I cannot say how proud I am of this group, we have talked all year about committing to a process and staying committed to each other," said head coach Garrett Linquist. "Today was the result of their commitment. The response from the girls after going down 1-0 was unbelievable and we were able to hang on in the second half and get a result that has been a long time coming for the program."

Hogg lead on offense Cobras with two goals, while Reagin added in the other one goal. Sarah Swaim picked up the win in net with 10 saves on the day.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 29) for a South Atlantic Conference match at Mars Hill. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
