Women's Soccer Falls to Barton in Season Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's soccer team opened up its 2019 season with a 3-0 loss at Barton on Saturday (Sep. 7).

Olivia Bronsen got the bulldogs on the board in the 11th minute, while the Cobras were able to battle to keep the game at a one-goal deficit at the half.

Syanni Harris would double Barton's lead with a goal in the 72nd minute, before Katie Christiansen scored in the 74th minute to put the game at its final score.

"I felt like we did a lot of things really well," said head coach Garrett Linquist. "I thought there were areas we were better in from our first scrimmage against Chowan to now. I was really proud of the way the girls continued to fight and the effort level we had for the full 90 minutes."

Gaby sturla put one shot on goal for the Cobras, while freshman Sarah Swaim made 12 saves between the pipes.

Coker will be back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 11) when the Cobras travel to Lander for a non-conference contest kickoff slated for 5:00 PM.
