Women’s Soccer Edged by Mars Hill in Final Minutes of Regulation

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College women's soccer team fell to the visiting Mars Hill University Lions 2-1 Saturday (Oct. 6) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action. The Lions tallied two goals in the final two minutes of regulation to down the Cobras.

The Navy and Gold started the match with confidence and took an early 1-0 lead from an unassisted goal by Meredith Kennedy in the 9th minute. Both teams played stout defense the rest of the way until Mars Hill broke loose with two goals in the final two minutes of play.

As mentioned, Kennedy recorded the Cobas lone goal of the afternoon and fired off a team-high four shots. Gaby Sturla, Dominique Walker, and Georgia Reece all notched one shot each. In goal, Alexandra Brown collected seven saves.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 10) when they host Montevallo University at 3 PM.
