Cobras Fall to Francis Marion in Non-Conference Action

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Coker College women's soccer team traveled to nearby Florence, South Carolina to take on the Francis Marion Patriots Wednesday (Sept. 5) evening in non-conference action. Francis Marion used a four-goal second half to propel themselves past the Cobras by a 4-2 final.

The Navy and Gold started the game with an aggressive offensive mindset and applied pressure to the Patriot defense early. Coker eventually created a corner kick and scored off an own goal that bounced off of a Patriot defender in the 32nd minute. The Cobras held their slim lead and headed into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

The second half of action began with three-straight goals from the Patriots. Trailing by two scores, the Navy and Gold battled back when Gaby Sturla found Lillia Rodriguez who scored from 10 yards out. Francis Marion went on to tack on one more goal and sealed the 4-2 victory.

Five Cobras recorded one shot on goal during the match, including Ashley Hogg, Rodriguez, Neeley Reagin, Kayla Lazo, and Georgia Reece. In goal, Alexandra Brown stepped up for an injured Samantha Hoffman and collected six saves.

The Cobras will return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 12) when they host Anderson to open up South Atlantic Conference play. Match time is set for 4:30 p.m.
