Women’s Soccer Held Scoreless in Season Opening Loss to Barton

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College women's soccer team opened up their 2018 season at the Coker Athletic Field on Thursday (Aug. 30) against the Barton College Bulldogs. The Cobras were held scoreless with a 2-0 defeat in their season opener.

The Navy and Golf began the first portion of the opening half by controlling the pace of the game. Coker maintained possession on their offensive end and fired off two shots in the opening six minutes. Towards the midpoint of the first stanza of action, the Bulldogs tallied their first score in the 30th minute and headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead over the Cobras.

In the second half, Barton found the back of the net in the 71st minute, extending their lead to 2-0 past Coker. Trailing by two scores, the Navy and Gold started to attack offensively and fired off two shots on goal. Junior transfer Georgia Reece had two good looks at the cage, but nearly missed putting the Cobras on the board.

The Cobras were led offensively by Reece, who recorded two shots on goal. On the defensive end, preseason SAC All-Conference selection Samantha Hoffman had an excellent game, gathering six saves in between the pipes.

The Navy and Gold will be back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 5) when they travel to Francis Marion for a non-conference match at 5 p.m.
