Cobras Drop Home Opener to Florida Tech

The Cobras women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Florida Tech in its home opener on Saturday, September 12.

Florida Tech struck first in the 21st minute off the foot of Kiera McCarthy. McCarthy was able to beat Middleton again in the 38th minute, picking up her fifth marker of the season unassisted. The Panthers would take the 2-0 lead to the break and would increase the lead in the 51st minute when Lina Sundelin fired home her second of the season.

The Cobras would get on the board in the 70th minute when a Batavia Mata cross off a corner kick found Jordan Roy in the box. Roy was able to stash it home for her first tally of the year, and Mata would pick up her second assist of the season.

Shelby Middleton made five saves while facing a total of eight shots on goal.

The Cobras begin their South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Anderson. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
