Cobras Even Record with Win at Greensboro

The Coker women's soccer team notched their first win of the year and first in the tenure of head coach Debbie McGuinness on Wednesday (Sept. 9) in a 3-1 victory over Greensboro College.

Coker got on the board first in the ninth minute when a Greensboro miscue led to an own-goal. The Cobras would strengthen their lead when Renee Ledesma drove a ball home after picking up the misplay from the keeper. Greensboro would cut the lead to 2-1 in the 16th minute, before the Cobras mounted a late charge. The dying seconds of the first half saw a Batavia Mata corner kick deposited into the back of the net by Jessi Campos, giving the Cobras a 3-1 lead on her first tally of the season.

Freshman Shelby Middleton made her first start for the Cobras, making three saves in the contest. Each team logged 14 shots, with the Cobras firing nine shots on goal to Greensboro's three.

Coker will continue their non-conference slate when they welcome Florida Tech on Saturday (Sept. 12). Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
