Coker Women’s Soccer Earns NSCAA Academic Award
The women's soccer team has been recognized for its academic performance by the NSCAA.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's soccer team recently received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. It is an award for having a program that excelled in the classroom in addition to its work on the field.
"Coming into each season, one of our team targets is to achieve awards like this from the NSCAA," said head women's soccer coach Dan Muns. "We like for our team to be competitive in every facet of life, so seeing them compete in two arenas – on the field and in the classroom – is something we as a staff are really proud of. The ladies value this recognition, which speaks volumes to the kind of individuals we have in this program."
In order to qualify for the award, a program must have a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The Coker women's soccer team posted a 3.09 GPA.
A total of 721 college soccer teams posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2011-12 academic year. Of that total, 150 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized. Coker College had both its men's and women's programs fall into this category.
