Coker Wrestlers Represented in First Set of Super Region II Rankings

BELMONT, N.C. - The first set of Super Region II rankings were recently announced and the Cobras were represented well with six wrestlers ranked. John Watts (125 pounds), Chase Clark (133 pounds), Alex Miller (141 pounds), Corey Christie (157 pounds), Bret Shurina (165 pounds), and Ramon Correa (285 pounds) are all ranked in the top six in their respective weight classes. As a team, the Cobras are ranked sixth in Super Region II.

Watts, a freshman from Willacoochee, Georgia is currently ranked fourth at 125 pounds. Watts has a 7-3 record with one major decision and won the King Open.

Clark comes in ranked fifth at the 133 pound weight class. The freshman from McAlpin, Florida has compiled a 6-7 record and finished fourth at the King Open.

Miller has had a solid showing in his freshman campaign, and is currently ranked fifth at 141 pounds. Miller has recorded a 7-2 record through the early portion of the season, and leads the team in falls with three and takedowns with 15. Additionally, Miller won the King Open.

Representing the Cobras at 157 pounds is freshman Corey Christie. The Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania native is ranked fifth in the region and has posted a team-best 9-1 record. Christie won the King Open and the Georgia Open.

The highest ranked Cobras in the first set of Super Region II rankings are Shurina and Correa. Shurina, a junior from Unionville, Virginia is currently 2-2 on the season and ranked third at 165 pounds. Correa, a junior from West Olive, Michigan is ranked third at 285 pounds and has posted a perfect 5-0 record on the season.

The Cobras will return to the mats on Sunday (Dec. 2) when they travel to Newberry to compete in the Newberry Duals. Wrestling is set to begin at 8 AM.
