Cobras Hang Tough on Day One of Super Region II Championships

FINDLAY, OHIO- Coker wrestling took to the mat on day one of the NCAA Division II Super Region II Championships, hosted by the University of Findlay. Five Cobras collected at least one victory on the day. Luis Peguero, Robert Parland, Ian Maund, and Matthew Kieta all advance to day two of the tournament.

Matthew Kieta earned a close decision (2-1) to start his day against his Ashland opponent. He later took a 16-7 major decision over Bellarmine wrestler in consolation round two.

Ian Maund garnered a forfeit over a Limestone opponent in consolation round two.

In consolation round one, Jordon Garlow pinned his Bellarmine opponent in 1:19 to set the all-time Coker career record in falls, now at 20.

Luis Peguero went 2-0 on the afternoon and will advance to the semifinals on day two. He wrestled for a major decision over Bellarmine (14-0) and earned a tight decision (1-0) over an Indianapolis wrestler in the quarterfinals.

Robert Parland picked up a decision over his Tiffin opponent (5-3) in round one of the championship bracket and also pinned his Bellarmine opponent in just over a minute (1:02) in consolation round two.

Day Two of the Super Region II Championships will begin again at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday (Feb. 24).
